Why Leaving Cypress Took Us More Than a Year – and What You Can Learn From Our Mistakes: A Case Study
At the beginning of 2023, at Displate, we made a decision: „we are leaving Cypress as our main automation tool!”
This decision seemed simple, but it’s now May 2025, and the process is still ongoing — with more than 70% of our tests still in Cypress.
So what went wrong?
I’ll start with what led us to change:
We encountered many issues with Cypress — none were critical on their own, but together they added up to a death by a thousand cuts.
High maintenance costs, a different testing philosophy, lack of trust in the Cypress.io maintainers, and many other factors that I’ll discuss during the presentation.
